Public Relations Student Society of America News & Events

I hope to gain a better understanding of the different opportunities the communication industry has to offer and to gain new skills that will help me grow as a professional and as an individual. I also would like to make connections and create a stronger portfolio. Plus I hope to gain better public speaking skills and be more confident in leaving my comfort zone as a professional and as an individual.
My future goal is to have a position within a non-profit organization that is working to make a difference in todays society, my dream would be to have the opportunity to be involved with The United Nations Children’s Fund. Currently I work at the Registrar office at WSU as a clerical assistant. My internship experiences include being a PR/Marketing intern at the WSU International Center, University of Idaho Athletic Media Relations intern, Spokane Empire Game day operations intern, a WSU Athletics marketing and promotions intern, and a Family Promise of the Palouse organization PR intern.

Hi! My name is A’Leesia McKinney. I am a senior at Washington State University majoring in Communication (more specifically, Public Relations). I am currently employed at the Social & Economic Science Research Center as an Interviewer. I am also an ambassador for the Cougar Athletic Fund and in charge of the Coug Guys & Gals social media accounts which consist of Twitter, Snapchat, and Instagram. If I am able to be apart of PRSSA, I hope to gain more professionalism skills, and also learn how to make my resume and cover letter “look” better. I also would like to use this as a chance to network and get a possible job in PR so I can start the building the career of my dreams. My senior year of high school I was an intern for Waggener Edstrom Worldwide Public Relations Firm, which is located in Bellevue, Washington.

I am interested in PRSSA because I want to get a bit more information about the public relations field. Along with this, I feel like I would be able to strengthen my resume with some hands on experience in something like PRSSA. I want to enter the field of health communication and that’s about all I know right now. I have been interested in sales for larger companies, and working alongside their human resources department or perhaps even making the jump to full time sales. All I know right now is that I want to see more of what public relations has to offer and hopefully find something that I’m interested in!

It’s my senior year this year so I am looking to get involved with an organization on campus related to communication. I’m not entirely sure what I want to do specifically, however I have been really interested in health communication and want to learn a bit more about the options in that field. I am currently emailing Jessica Willoughby about getting involved with some research opportunities on campus, but besides that I do not have too much experience in the field of communication. I also am looking at applying for the Counseling and Student Health Advisory Council just to get some hands on work with health com. Essentially, I am looking to jump start my post grad career by getting a foot in the door with health com and possibly some new fields. Thank you!

My name is Jacqueline Monroe and I am a senior studying public relations at the Edward R. Murrow College of Communication. I am a PR and Marketing Intern at WSU Press and I work at Lily Bee’s Consignment Shop in downtown Pullman. When I’m not in the classroom or working, I sell clothes out of my apartment on Poshmark.com to women all over the country. Fashion makes me tick and I’ve had the mindset of an entrepreneur from the time I sold my first glass of lemonade.

I want to be a member of PRSSA to gain additional experience outside of the classroom and build up my professional network. As I enter my final semester, I am seeking public relations job opportunities in the fashion industry and health industries.
